Great review of the concert in Wergea

A musical meeting with The Rolo’s on Sunday morning, February 16.

For the third year in succession, the ‘Musical Encounters’ committee organized a Sunday morning concert at Us Doarpshus in Wergea. The first year there was the pianist Andrei Makarov, an emerging talent from Russia and last year the pianist Victoria Dmitrieva, also from Russia, and the Spanish soprano Laia Lopez Ramirez gave a double concert in our village hall. Very successful without exception. Both the audience and the performers were in good spirits both times!
You might wonder whether only foreign talents find our way to our stage, but nothing could be further from the truth. Take last Sunday, February 16, for example. The day certainly promised a lot of good things. A bit of wintery weather with some remnants of snow here and there, a bright blue sky and the Wergeaster Feart was already frozen over. Not only were the weather forecasts promising, expectations for a great Sunday morning concert were also high. This day no musicians with exotic names, from parts of the world that the average Wergeaster can only dream of. No! This Sunday we would offer a stage to The Rolo’s from De Tike. For many people it is almost as exotic a name as Catalonia, but for us Frisians it is better known as the pearl from Smallingerland. The Rolos consists of brother Floris (11 years old) pianist and his sister Annemijn (13 years old) violinist, occasionally accompanied by their father, who does not shy away from a bass part. We also saw Annemijn on stage together with her violin teacher Arjen Beintema. They played Jean Marie Leclair’s Sonata V with dedication. Annemijn and Floris are musical talents who have no equal in the Netherlands. Both classical music lovers and jazz fanatics got their money’s worth this morning. It was an experience to hear and see them play. The passion for (making) music was evident. In a word, it was fantastic, a morning that will be talked about often. Not only did the duo’s musical achievements command respect, it turned out that pianist Floris, in addition to being a gifted pianist, is also an entertainer in the making. Here stood the future presenter of ‘Podium Klassiek’ or DWDD.
Words are often inadequate to describe their music and that’s why I’m not going to try, but don’t worry, readers who have been inspired by this piece will have a second chance to see and hear them play. On March 9, 058 Jazz will organize an afternoon of jazz in Neushoorn in Leeuwarden, starring The Rolo’s. They receive support from top musicians Frans van Geest, Vincent Koning, Gijs Dijkhuizen and again Arjen Beintema. Teacher Mike Bodde also plays along. Going there!!!
